ExactET Saves Clients 300 Million Litres Of Water in 2012

For the 2012 irrigation season, ExactET saved its 500 plus clients a total of 302 million litres of potable water. This equated to a reduction to the clients' outdoor water bills of nearly $600,000.

On a percentage basis ExactET reduced the outdoor water consumption of its clients by 30% in 2012 (2011: 47% and 2010: 55%).

The lower figure reflects the combination of a longer irrigation season combined with an abnormally hot and dry July through September for much of Canada. In Calgary, for example, rainfall for that period was 59% below normal and temperatures 17.6% above normal.

The average water savings delivered to ExactET's Commercial clients was 0.7 million litres per property. For a Municipal property, the average water savings in 2012 was 1.2 million litres and for Multi-Family Residential clients (e.g. condominiums) the average water savings was 1.6 million litres per property.

A small sampling of the proven water and $$$ savings for ExactET's Commercial, Municipal and Multi-Family Residential clients appears below.

Examples of the proven savings for Residential, Church, Retirement Living and Institutional clients are available on request.

How are savings calculated?

These are the documented water savings during a typical irrigation season (May-Oct.) with Climate Controlled Irrigation compared to traditional timer-based watering. Volume savings for the most part are calculated using irrigation meters and apply irrigation frequencies times water usage volumes per irrigation event. Water cost savings are based on 2012 irrigation water service rates. For the City of Calgary that rate was $1.9218/m³. ROI is based on water rates at the time and year of installation. Usage amounts have been converted from m³ to litres for demonstration purposes.
